
The southeastern coastal regions of the Indochina Peninsula possess abundant bauxite resources. In recent years, supported by strong government policies, the region’s aluminum production chain has expanded rapidly, with large volumes of alumina exported to neighboring markets.
XL Company has been deeply involved in the local aluminum industry for decades. With extensive bauxite mining areas and a selfowned alumina refinery, the company has established a complete operational chain from raw ore extraction to alumina export. At every stage of this chain, one element remains essential — reliable and efficient truck transportation.
In 2023, XL operated more than 100 large dump trucks to shuttle bauxite between the mine and the refinery. However, the fleet faced longstanding limitations. Local regulations restricted conventional 6×4 dump trucks to approximately 10 tonnes per trip, while the existing 70tonne offsetcab mining dump trucks were too large for the narrow onsite roads and offered excess capacity.
In the second half of 2024, after comprehensive field research, the SHACMAN team proposed a new transportation solution tailored to XL’s operating environment.
To ensure rapid deployment and highquality delivery, SHACMAN selected an offsetcab mining dump truck optimized for maneuverability and payload. The chosen 50tonne model features a 420hp engine, mininggrade tires, miningduty rear suspension, and a triplelayer frame, providing exceptional heavyload performance and durability. The first five prototype units received strong customer approval during trial operations, leading XL to place an immediate followup order for 50 additional trucks.
Once bauxite is refined into alumina, tractors are required to haul the product 200 kilometers to the seaport. Due to strict GCW (Gross Combination Weight) limits, XL’s existing fleet of 70 tractors could carry only 34 bags of alumina (34 tonnes) per trip.
SHACMAN engineers calculated that each additional bag of alumina transported generates an extra US$15 in revenue. With lightweight design as the top priority — and considering the wellpaved roads and shorttomediumdistance routes — the team recommended the X5000 lightweight tractor.
Equipped with an aluminum fuel tank, flatroof cab, and optimized component layout, the X5000 increases singletrip payload to 36 bags, adding approximately US$5,400 in annual revenue per vehicle. The lightweight structure paired with the latestgeneration M10 engine delivers an average fuel consumption of just 30.5 L/100 km on loadedoutbound and emptyreturn trips with GCW exceeding 50 tonnes — saving 9 L per 100 km compared with mainstream competitors. The integrated IBrake engine brake ensures stable control on the daily 10km downhill section, significantly reducing the risk of brake overheating.
An XL executive commented, “I never expected SHACMAN’s product customization could reach this level. The vehicles fit our real operating conditions perfectly and have made our aluminum operations far more efficient.”
